Subject: Thank you for Standing up
I just would like send out a thank you for standing up for working class America. I am a High School educator in Georgia, my entire school is on a free lunch program due to the community poverty, a poverty mainly made up of welfare recipients. I completely agree that parents with governmental dependency should have to show attendance to a number of Parent conferences, PTO meeting, parenting courses, etc. in order to continue receiving monthly checks. Furthermore, I think that these recipients should have random drug testings and be required to apply to a certain number of jobs per month and be required to attend job fairs throughout the year. Many of these same requirements are placed on individuals who desire work in order to receive their unemployment checks so, why can't stipulations be placed on individuals who have no desire to work. In my county I see a trend developing in my classes at the secondary level, already forming with a lazy, uncaring attitude that someone owes them something.

As a side note, all of the cuts in education lately, you know I haven't once heard of the welfare being cut!!! What is this when government rewards laziness and punishes the hard workers?

Honestly, I am completely agitated with the whole system. I supported myself through college and now owe tons in students loans, while working 2 full time jobs I saw fellow students, unmarried, with illegitimate kids running around, and they went to college on government grants and didn't even have a part time job and always enjoyied student life.

Come to GA you have my Vote!

Thanks for listening and standing up for working class America,
A very concerned Tax Paying American Citizen

RE:Thank you for Standing Up
Brandon,
Thank you very much for your kind words of support. While I acknowledge I could have used a more tactful metaphor, I stand behind the point I was trying to make, which is we must do something to end the culture of dependency on the government. I may not always be “politically correct”, but I will always be honest. Additionally, I have never suggested taking away a child’s government benefits (school lunch) because of the parent’s behavior. What I do believe is that a parent who is receiving government assistance should be compelled to show just a little interest in their child’s education by attending a parent-teacher conference or a PTA meeting a time or two a year. Studies show that children whose parents take an active role in their education fare better in the end.

If you feel comfortable doing so, it would be really helpful if you would go online to the newspaper and TV station websites around the state (thestate.com, greenvilleonline.com, postandcourrier.com, aikenstandard.com, foxcarolina.com, wyff.com, wistv.com, etc.), click on a story about this, and post a positive comment on the “comment” thread at the bottom. Also, letters to the editors are going to be very helpful over the next few days, so please consider writing one. If there is something you want my staff to proof before you submit, or if you need talking points please email matt.robinson@andrebauer.com. If you would like to help out with my campaign, please let Matt know. Of course, you can always go to andrebauer.com to help me continue to spread the message.

Thanks again for your message of support, and please let me know if there is anything I can ever do for you.

Warm regards,
André
